Udo Noger: Light as a Material

Udo Nöger’s work in art from around 1997 to the present day can be defined as one that has as its theme the abstract monochrome painting in the context of light. Nöger’s typical works are marked by the following characteristics: light, painted color, space, and object.

Udo Nöger was born in 1961 in Enger, Westfalia, Germany. For the last 16 years he has lived in Germany and in several American cities; usually for six month periods in each location. He has exhibited both in the United States and Germany during this time.

He most recently resided in Maui, Hawaii, and in Cologne Germany, where he worked on paintings for this American tour of his work and for exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Vienna, Stuttgart, and Paris.

“Light as a Material,” an exhibition of more than 30 large-scale paintings by German artist Udo Nöger, will open June 10 at the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the State Fair Community College campus. The opening is set for 1-5 p.m. The artist will present a lecture for the public at 2 p.m. that day. The exhibition will continue through Sept. 10.
