Elana Herzog: Dewarped & Unweft
October 2 - December 13, 2009 Free AdmissionThis mid-career survey reviews Herzog’s mixed-media sculptures and installations with seventeen works that date from 1996 to the present. A highlight of the survey is a site-specific installation created for the Daum Museum. Herzog’s oeuvre is centered on artworks that employ found materials associated with everyday domestic lift. She is best known for her manipulation of vintage chenille bedspreads, which she wall mounts with thousands of closely applied industrial staples. Herzog compromises the decorative potential of these homey textiles by ripping, shredding, and unraveling large portions of them contrasting notions of ruin with the conventional ideals of line, texture, color, and beauty.
