Leaving & Waving: Photographs by Deanna Dikeman
October 2 - December 19, 2010 Free AdmissionFor over 20 years, Dikeman has compulsively trained her camera on her parents and their home environment in suburban Iowa, recording in detail their daily routine: mornings at the breakfast table, household chores, sitting and chatting. Dikeman has an anthropologist’s eye for telling details, and viewers quickly find shared significance in this record of commonplace customs. During the course of the project, we watch her parents age and slow, even as the repetitive cycle of their lives conveys an enduring domesticity.
