In planning for the opening exhibition for the new Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, the artist who immediately came to mind was Betty Woodman. As a result of numerous important American and European exhibitions and sequential solo exhibitions in New York City, she has become one of the world’s foremost ceramists. Along with her triptych, “east/West,” she shows other works representative of her unique vocabulart developed over her long and distinguished career. She has included five diptychs, two large-scale drawings, two ceramic wall murals plus a thirty-five foot ceramic wall mural with hand painted background. This repertoire of forms represents the evolution of her pioneering explorations, merging sculpture and painting in a dynamic assemblage of creativity.
